Favorite Concert Pics - 2019

These are my most fav concert pics from last year!
Not every show had the best lighting or set-up, so every time presented new challenges. I grew a lot this year and I'm really proud of the photos that I did take and how I fought for these shots. I got to experience a nice mix of genres last year, which was one of my goals, so I got to stretch my creativity with all the different moods. Most of the photos that I chose I feel tell a story or I like them because they are different or were difficult to get. I am planning on attending less shows in 2020 as I would like to focus on other endevours. But, I would also like to work on getting a new camera and start filming at shows. Take a gander at the pics and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

    Cool Nutz

I like because he looks like Iron Man. I enjoy checking out the audiences expressions. Opening up for Andre Nickatina. Roseland Theater. Jan. 26 2019

  • Andre Nickatina

    Andre Nickatina

I like this one because it really focuses just on him and has you wondering what he is thinking about. This was a difficult shot to get because I wasn't allowed in the photo pit as they kicked all of us photographers out for Andre. So, I had to squeeze my way into a lucky spot in the front on the corner. Also the lighting wasn't the best and my zoom lens as it doesn't have a wide aperture, f4, so I'm glad it didn't turn out too dark. Roseland Theater. January 26th, 2019 Shot for Vortex Music Magazine.

  • Tomberlin

    Tomberlin

I like this because of the use of space and tranquility. No one is on their phone and no special lights/video are used. It's simply just her and her guitar, singing pleasant songs and captivating the crowd with her youthful honesty. Opening up for Pedro The Lion, Revolution Hall. February 22, 2019

  • Tobe Nwigwe

    Tobe Nwigwe

I like this because it's a raw moment when an artist is taking in the performance and the joy. He was really grateful for the overwhelming response from the sold out crowd. Also one of the only shows where the artists have custom made clothes. At Portland's Holocene, March 11th, 2019. Shot for Vortex Music Magazine

  • Murs

    Murs

I like this one because of his hair. I like how the bokeh turned out and is a nice frozen shot. There's energy and calm in this shot and I enjoy that contrast. I also like my choice of putting it in black and white, as I think it helps the audience give pause to the moment and are able to see Murs first and then then environment around. The few times where stage equipment works and isn't distracting. Hawthorne Theatre, April 12th, 2019

  • The Beaches

    The Beaches

I like this one because it looks like she is blowing her band mate's hair back with her bass. These girls kicked ass and I liked their name too. An all female rock band from Toronto Canada. Opening up for Passion Pit at Portland's Roseland Theater. May 9th, 2019

  • Passion Pit

    Passion Pit

I like this one because it looks like a nice, general concert pic. You get to feel the rocker energy and see the equipment that goes into a concert. This show was a nightmare for my ISO, as there were very bright bursts of light periodically. So, predicting was key. This show kept me on my toes, as it was fast action and a lot going on. I definitely worked at this show, whew! Frontman, Michael Angelakos at Portland's Roseland Theater. May 9th, 2019

  • Sunspot Jonz for Stoney Hawk

    Sunspot Jonz for Stoney Hawk

I like this one because it's a non-performance moment and that the theater allow the artists to smoke on stage. A nice rare moment. Hip-hop duo Stoney Hawk, comprised of Sunspot Jonz and A-Plus from the Hieroglyphics, on stage in Eugene for The Hieroglyphics Third Eye Vision 25th Anniversary Tour. May 19th, 2019

  • Sunspot Jonz for Stoney Hawk

    Sunspot Jonz for Stoney Hawk

Again, I like this one mostly because they let the artists smoke on stage. I also like the lines of this shot and how it directs your eye from him to the joint. Hip-hop duo Stoney Hawk, comprised of Sunspot Jonz and A-Plus from the Hieroglyphics, on the stage in Eugene for The Hieroglyphics Third Eye Vision 25th Anniversary Tour. May 19th, 2019

  • Sunspot Jonz for Stoney Hawk

    Sunspot Jonz for Stoney Hawk

I think this one is funny and I like the contrast of child and adulthood. I almost missed this shot as this was the first move he did when he brought out the doll. Hip-hop duo Stoney Hawk, comprised of Sunspot Jonz and A-Plus from the Hieroglyphics, on the stage in Eugene for The Hieroglyphics Third Eye Vision 25th Anniversary Tour. May 19th, 2019

  • PROF

    PROF

I like this one because of the excitement of the ladies in the crowd. But then.....

  • PROF

    PROF

….It turns to disgust as PROF thrusts his pelvis into their faces. Bossanova Ballroom, July 20th, 2019.

  • RC Spitta

    RC Spitta

I like this one because it has Moonlight colors and is suggestive. Bit House Saloon, Prominence 2, presented by Swiggle Mandela. Aug. 30th, 2019

  • RC Spitta

    RC Spitta

I like this because of the use of space and limited lighting. Bit House Saloon, Prominence 2, presented by Swiggle Mandela. Aug. 30th, 2019

  • Swiggle Mandela

    Swiggle Mandela

I like because of the raw emotion from Swiggle and I think that it's perfectly focused. I had a hell of a time getting the right white balance and brightness during this event. So, I am proud of all the shots that did turn out. Lighting like this is the reason why you shoot in RAW. Bit House Saloon, Prominence 2. Aug. 30th, 2019

  • Beyond

    Beyond

I liked this one because of his hair. He has a Beetlejuice vibe. He was also a super cool dude that surprised me with his songs. Sept. 15th, 2019

  • CEG

    CEG

I chose this photo because I really enjoyed this artist. I liked her energy and sound. She had a nice blend of old jazz and new age hip hop. I also liked how her hair covered most of her face and had a noir feel to her performance. Pegasus Project, Sept. 15th, 2019

  • Stevo the Weirdo

    Stevo the Weirdo

This photo is nice because of the Moonlight feel and I also like the lone dread sticking out. It is a slight imperfection that helps with the overall attitude of Stevo. Representing the Portland hip-hop scene well while opening up for Grieves at the Hawthorne Theatre. Oct. 8th, 2019

  • Stevo the Weirdo

    Stevo the Weirdo

What I like about this one is the contrast of colors. Stevo is all red essentially, while the two ladies in the crowd are blue. I think it is artistic and I like all the contrasts it offers. Opening up for Grieves, Hawthorne Theatre, Oct. 8th, 2019

  • Stevo the Weirdo

    Stevo the Weirdo

I like this one because I think it is framed nicely. You have the artist in his element and the crowd following along. I also like the window that was offered to me, as moments like this are difficult to achieve in most crowds. Hawthorne Theatre, Oct. 8th, 2019.

  • Grieves

    Grieves

I chose this one because of the reminder of the opportunity and not really the photo itself. I got to be on stage through my own doing and not because I knew the artist. So it was a good feeling to achieve a privilege on my own. I like Grieves a lot and think he is totally underrated. But I do wish that he didn't have the lights so dark for this show, as really only like three pics turned out of him that I like. But maybe I'll tell him that when he's back this year in March! Hawthorne Theatre, October 8th, 2019.

  • nothing,nowhere

    nothing,nowhere

This shot I waited for. I had a hard time capturing their faces for a few reasons, so I had to seek alternatives. I fell in love with this jacket and basically let it guide me through what shots to take for this group. I really like the energy and composition of this photo. Opening up for grandson at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom. October 12th, 2019

  • nothing,nowhere

    nothing,nowhere

This photo is all about the color. I like the clean, yet harsh use of the green and red. I also like that it still isn't Christmas feeling and can stand on it's own. I think it also helps the viewer connect the artist with the crowd and get and overall feeling of the show as a whole. Crystal Ballroom, October 12th, 2019.

  • nothing,nowhere

    nothing,nowhere

I chose this photo because of the emotions it evokes. Like a dark stillness. Like you're not sure if you should be sad or angry. I also like the balance of eye contact among the band members. I do think this looks slightly crooked, so I may have to re-crop it. Opening up for grandson at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom. October 12th, 2019
